F.A.Q
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start training at the Academy as a complete beginner, which Martial Art will I study and will I be safe practising Martial Arts?
You can start your training at the Academy in a Beginner/Intermediate class as soon as you wish. There are several Martial Arts available at the Academy. We would recommend that you watch a few of the different Martial Arts classes on offer to make a more informed choice. Your safety in the Academy is our No 1 priority. We have a strict policy whereby students are trained in a bully free and safe environment.
How soon can I take gradings and can I train up to Black Belt level?
We operate a grading system that requires the student to train a minimum amount of time before they qualify to be graded. These time frames may vary from the level of grade the student is taking. On average, Black Belts in Karate, Little Dragons, and Thai Boxing take approximately 2 to 3 years to attain. This is based on training at least twice a week.
I hear people mentioning the word etiquette, how is this incorporated into the training at the Academy?
Without etiquette and respect for each other as we practice Martial Arts we would simply be street thugs hitting kick bags and each other. Martial Arts practiced in the Academy starts and finishes with respect for each other and your Instructor.
Is what I am going to learn effective as Self Defence?
The effectiveness of what you are taught at the Academy is down to the individual. All of the classes have a large emphasis on Self Defence for the street.
Are Martial Arts suitable for Women?
Absolutley! The arts are learnt and absorbed to suit the needs of the individual, being powerful and big is not a sole requirement for defending oneself on the street, using speed and striking to vital areas can be extremely effective as a means of Self Defence.
Can I use what I learn in Martial Arts on the street?
ONLY in a self defence scenario or to defend your loved ones. NEVER to bully, to show off or to use for any wrong purpose. Remember, in most instances you have an option to walk away.
How often do I need to train?
Most students progress at a moderate level training once a week. Twice a week is ideal, anything extra will only accelerate your learning process. Your standard will obviously be related to the time you invest. In effect, you are in control of your future in the Martial ArtsĀ at the Academy.
I have some previous training in Martial Arts, which class should I attend?
Train initially in a Beginner / Intermediate class where your level can be assessed. When appropriate you will be asked to join the Advanced group. You can train in a number of Martial Arts, you are not limited to one Art.
